4 Sessions (2.5 hours/session) | Total of 10 hours

This is an intermediate course for hand-drawn fashion illustration. Students will learn to create a variety of fashion poses, practise drawing faces and hairstyles, illustrate more complex garments (eg. with drape, volume etc.), and advance their skills in colouring and rendering (texture, prints etc.). The focus will be on mastering pencil drawing and copic marker techniques. Students will complete ~5 fully-rendered outfits to complete the course.

ABOUT YI LIN:

Cheng Yi Lin graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles. She worked as an Assistant Designer in New York City for 2 years. Subsequently, she has done freelance commissions in textile design and illustration, as well as live illustration at events. Her clients include The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Chaumet, Parfums Christian Dior etc.

What You Will Learn

  • Creating a wider variety of female fashion figures/poses
  • Drawing faces and different hairstyles
  • Refining drawing techniques including line quality
  • Understanding volume, proportion, silhouette and the way fabrics fall on the figure
  • Coming up with simple concepts and generating ideas for designs
  • Applying knowledge to draw clothing on the figure
  • Rendering with copic markers- advanced shading, depicting textures, illustrating prints

Important note

  • Students are required to have taken Fashion Illustration 101 or show similar experience (please contact to discuss).
  • Materials will be provided for in-class use. Students may choose to purchase additional materials (paper, pencils, copic markers etc.) to complete the work.
  • Weekly homework will be assigned if you are unable to complete the work within class time.
  • Regular feedback will be given. If you require additional help, please contact the instructor to discuss.

Classes start on time, please arrive 5 minutes earlier if possible.
