Sewing a Sustainable Lifestyle (and how sewing will make you think twice about discarding)! 🌟♻️

Sew What? Sustainability, of Course!

When you know how to make fashion, the possibilities become endless, but how does this relate to sustainable practices? We believe sustainability and sewing go hand in hand!

1) Upcycle/ Repair

What you'll need: Your imagination, some old clothes, some basic sewing and patternmaking skills, some sewing and drafting tools and a sewing machine.

Instead of discarding your pre-loved clothes, upcycle them to new trendy products! Imagine transforming a dated oversized shirt into a chic, Ganni-inspired statement piece when you know how to draft to your size/ resize them to fit you beautifully!

By reimagining and repurposing what you already own, it encourages your creativity and grows your satisfaction! Each revamped garment becomes evidence of your commitment to sustainability, showcasing that every item has value beyond its initial use.

2) Altering Clothes to Fit YOU... not the masses!

What you'll need: Some pins, preferably someone who can help you with pinning, some basic sewing skills and a sewing machine.

We see a design on the rack or online...we love it...we buy it...and then... noooooooo...it doesn't fit! With some sewing skills, you don't have to discard that! You can do the alterations yourself and alter it the way you like it, or even add more features like ruffles, appliques, or even lace! Just because you can!

You are your own model, so make these off-the-rack clothes, truly yours.

3) Reduce Consumption- Buy Less Fabrics and Less Clothes

What you'll need: Knowledge on how to cut and calculate fabric consumption, and some lovely fabric

You can still have new clothes! However, instead of contributing to the cycle of excessive consumption and disposal, you can promote a more mindful approach to fashion. Not only can you choose to buy less clothes, but you can choose to buy less fabrics, with the knowledge on how to utilize your materials efficiently!

Let's not contribute to our mountains of textile waste sitting in landfills.

4) Making Better Quality Clothes—The Key to Longevity

By sewing it painstakingly yourself, or choosing to buy only good quality clothes, you practice mindful consumption by buying and making only what you need. Thereby consuming products that are longer lasting, repairable or even made from sustainable materialsSupport brands with ethical practices!

Ultimately, sustainability is about embracing a lifestyle that prioritizes longevity, creativity and environmental responsibility.
