2-Day Beginner Couture Beading & Embellishment by The English Tailoress

2 session course total 12 hours 

This is a unique opportunity to learn Couture beading & embellishment with Couture Dress Designer Charlotte Appleby in Singapore!

This 2 day course gives an in depth approach to tambour beading and couture embellishments applied to haute-couture fashion and high fashion for beginners. It will cover the tambour beading technique using silk organza, seed beads and bugle beads to cover the basic chain stitch and a vermicelli design. The 2nd day will cover couture embellishments including ribbonwork, 3d beadwork & flowers. All techniques learnt will be applied to a design.

Day 1
Learn how to create a solid framework for beading using silk organza on a rotating frame. This technique can be applied to larger frames to bead panels for a garment.
The main focus is on the basic chain stitch using a tambour hook correctly set up for silk organza.
Learn how to create a secure knot and change direction.
Seed beads and bugle beads are used to start tambour beading with a variety of techniques including vermicelli

Day 2
Couture embellishments including ribbonwork are taught using a beading needle and thread to create a variety of texture and dimension with 3d beadwork, clusters, raised beadwork and brickwork for trims and edging.

Please remember although you will be learning in a mixed technique group, your class is tailored specifically to your progress.

Things to Bring:
a) Basic sewing kit- pins, sewing needle and beading needle, pencil and scissors.
b) Must bring a 4” d, c or f clamp. Picture attached.
Couture beading kit needs to be hired or purchased, you can decide on the first day of course:
– Hire charge $30 SGD
– Purchase charge $65 SGD

$450 SGD includes silk organza, beads, sequins, couture beading thread.
Tambour hook and frame can be hired or purchased on the day:
– Hire charge $30 SGD
– Purchase charge $65 SGD
Extra specialist supplies can be purchased after the course finishes
Classes start on time, please arrive 5 mins early if possible.

Minimum 8 students to start the course.



The English Tailoress trained in Handcraft tailoring at London College of Fashion to learn bespoke tailoring (Savile Row method) for men and women. She developed her technical skills by working in the fashion and costume industry on productions for theatre, opera, film and fashion designers showcasing at LFW and Paris Couture Week. Alongside her freelance work, she continued to work with individual clients designing and making bespoke tailoring and couture for special occasions.
